i’ve literally just been sitting in my flat (mostly in bed) since i got back on saturday morning. still recouperating from all that travelling. my internship starts tomorrow, which means i will actually have to start functioning again. haha.
sadly, europe doesn’t celebrate halloween the same as americans. nevertheless our flat still plans on dressing up this friday night and finding someplace to go; there are a few costume balls and most of the clubs have halloween-esque themes for the night.
while this week doesn’t have too many exciting plans, next week, however, should be quite different. first off, the presidential election! and you will all be happy to know my ballot was safely mailed out monday morning and should be in orange county by the end of this week. i know it was in good hands because the man at the post office liked who i was voting for
now while the whole world will be watching and waiting to find out the next u.s. president, the brits will be celebrating (no matter who wins) the following day-guy fawkes day! in case you don’t know who guy fawkes is, here’s a little history lesson for you:
“remember, remember the 5th of november.” november 5th marks the anniversary of the gunpowder plot, a conspiracy to blow up the english parliament and king james I in 1605, the day set for the king to open parliament. the anniversary was named after guy fawkes, the most famous of the conspirators.
next week also starts what i would like to call the beginning of winter because the ice skating rinks are opening-the first one being at the natural history museum which is about two blocks from my flat! hyde park’s winter wonderland opens towards the end of the month. i can also tell you that it’s the beginning of winter because it is absolutely FREEZING. my iGoogle updates me every morning on the chilly weather…let’s see this week looks like an average of a warm (yeah, right) 45 degrees. tonight’s forecast even says SNOW. yes, the low for this evening is 33 degress. looks like i won’t be leaving the flat again…
